The world’s first drone pizza delivery, done in November in New Zealand, reached the right customer in Whangaparaoa, north of Auckland. This initiative, which demonstrates that drone and robotic technologies are a much broader field of application outside the defence and aerospace industry, has attracted attention of both the technology world and other brands after making a successful delivery. This drone, controlled automatically by the GPS navigation system, was monitored by a professional drone pilot team along the way.

Speaking about this initiative taking place after three months of their partnership with Flirtey, Domino’s Group Chief Executive Officer Don Meij said that this was the signing of food heat test, trials and state-supported work. Meij indicated that they wanted to adopt this delivery system to a significant extent, and they wanted to present the hottest and freshest pizzas on the market. Underlining that Flirtey is the right choice for this innovative goal, Meij continued; “The DRU drone developed by Flirtey made it possible for us to reach our customers in just 10 minutes by providing the fastest and safest flight.”

Drawing attention to the fact that this technology will be used by everyone in the future; Meij expressed that the delivery of the drone has removed the traffic problem and has provided a significant advantage. Meij emphasized that customers are very excited about this development; and he underscored that they will carry out more delivery tests with the DRU drone.

In this context, Sweeny, who underlines Flirtey’s drone leadership in the aviation industry, summarized the process they were in as; “Our daily tests are ongoing; hardware and software are also being worked on to a perfection level; in order to deliver the best quality to our customers”. Accordingly, Sweeny emphasized that their partnership with Domino’s is continuing; they will continue to develop this application with the feedback from the customers.

Realizing a first in the food industry with this exciting work; Domino’s proves that the days that drones and robots will help us; in our everyday lives is not that far away. The company plans to make this practice more extensive with Flirtey after New Zealand; and they announced that they aimed to deliver via drone in; Australia, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Japan and Germany markets as well.
