Predicting about IoT technology and digital transformation in the sectoral area in 2017, Joseph Reger from Fujitsu says IoT is no longer in the future but is now.
Showing presence in all industries in the last 5 years and in 2016, IoT (Internet of Things) offers many opportunities with its network inside and outside the organization. It is stated that this technology, which is one of the leading elements of Industry 4.0, will show its full existence in the sectors in 2017.
Fujitsu EMEA region’s Chief Technology Manager Joseph Reger has argued that several organizations will become hyper-linked in 2017 and stated that IoT will be an integral part of the business world. Reger said that IoT is talked like it is a technology of the future but actually it is the technology of today. Reger said now that the IoT works are now in the second step. After that, operational efficiency and actual deductions will be obtained from the data collected.
Reger reminded that an example of this would be manufacturers saving from a 30% financial loss, in addition to saving time by taking advantage of IoT in controlling and monitoring stocks. Voicing that in this context, IoT is no longer an extra technology that a company can have but a requirement, Reger added that companies will face some difficulties in the face of such a transition.
Regarding the need to focus on life cycle management as well as product development and optimization processes; Reger emphasized that this requires a new restructuring for the organization. Reger underlined the importance of after-sales service; and said that the companies should become a good software company; as well as a service provider for this change. Reger continued; “The fact that you can produce, sell and support something does not mean that you can provide service. There are different steps that require different skills; but with the ‘smart city’ provided by IoT technology, the manufacturers will be linked to service models, the insurance company and the user’s vehicles.”
2017 will be the year of digital transformation

Expressing that in this way, a hyper-link in the customer relationship will reveal different options; Reger said that companies are looking for different ways of customer relations within the scope of the linked product. Reger said that solutions that are not related to the distributor or any third party will be effective; and added that would save both time and cost.
Reger said that the issue of security will become more and more common with the expansion and development of IoT; and reminded that many components of this technology are still not safe. Reger stressed the need for a security solution to be integrated into the more comprehensive IoT platform; than the ‘encryption’ strategy for companies to avoid problems such as data loss. Noting that there will be efforts to find a holistic solution in 2017; Reger stated that system integrators and network providers are focusing on this issue.
In 2017, companies are expecting a great digital transformation; and Reger said that the companies that keep up with the digital revolution; and who make a difference in the maintenance and continuity of the aftermarket products will step forward.
