New generation technologies play a part in various segments. One of these, 3D printing enables innovative and practical designs. Presenting a fresh manufacturing alternative, 3D is used by Loughborough University student Raymond Ng’s projector design. Being very small and rotatable, ‘.Lantern’ gained credit with its minimal and elegant design.
.Lantern, a final design project at Loughborough University in the UK, is a concept for a home projector device that is only about the size of a milk carton and can project clear images of up to 70” in size from extremely short distances. This means that you’ll no longer have to set up your projector in the middle of a room, but can place the .Lantern wherever is most convenient.
The team expresses 3D manufacturing process thusly; “We love celebrating great design, especially when our prints have been used to prototype and develop a product. We are very proud to have worked with Raymond Ng in the run up to his final degree show at Loughborough University where he presented .Lantern. By taking advantage of our student discount Raymond was able to utilise SLS 3D printing as a means of testing the feasibility and form of different designs, as well as producing the final prototype.”
