3D imaging has been in broadcasting world for quite a while, but that’s not the case for 3D printing. HBO’s new show Westworld promotion video is to show that this can change.

Broadcasted in  UK Sky Atlantic channel, the show is expected curiously by science fiction lovers. Directed by Jonathan Nolan, this is a disutopic story evaluating human and technology relationship. The promotion video hit the channels and received great recognition thanks to 3D printing technology.

UK network released a short teaser video in which a sort of futuristic Vitruvian Man emerges from a stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer to reveal the show’s release date, October 4th, 2016. The 3D model, as it turns out, is a nod to Westworld’s own “host” manufacturing line, through which the park’s artificially intelligent beings are constructed by the theme park’s founder, Dr. Robert Ford—played by the amazing Anthony Hopkins.

The promo clip itself was made by Sky Atlantic in partnership with Hobs Studio, a UK-based 3D printing service, which provided the network with access to the UK’s largest stereolithography 3D printer. The clip shows the 3D printed model emerging from the 3D printer, which uses lasers to turn liquid resin into a solid shape. The effect, as you can see for yourself, is quite eery but very effective.
