The Internet of Things (IOT) technology, which is expected to shape the future of communications network, continues to increase its influence. With this target in mind, Sigfox is opening to the Asia internet of things market with its partner Thinxtra.

Sigfox, one of the world’s leading suppliers of IOT connectivity, is expanding its communications network. Thinxtra, the operator of Sigfox solutions in Australia and New Zealand, will enter the Hong Kong region and the company will be called by a wider network. It is stated that Sigfox’s IoT communication network will be located in the Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China in 2017.

Satisfied with this initiative, Hong Kong emphasized the importance of IOT technology. According to the technology summit in Hong Kong, 2014 Digital 21, IOT was among the pioneering technologies that Hong Kong should adopt. In addition, the ‘Energizing Kowloon East‘ initiative, a smart city project in 2015, entered into force and began to support Hong Kong’s IOT efforts.

This initiative of IOT; which opened the door to innovative technological opportunities by linking the physical world with the internet; Sigfox’s presence in 28 countries is not only enriching its network; will also support Hong Kong’s digital technology investments. In the last five years, Sigfox’s network; which combines technological tools in a low-cost, energy-saving cloud, creating a global wireless network; is expected to go up to 60 by 2018.

Rodolfe Baronnet-Frugès, Vice President of Sigfox Networks and Operators, pointed out that Hong Kong is a gateway to China as a center of innovation and technology; Australia and New Zealand operators are also happy to improve their partnership with Thinxtra. Frugès also voiced that Hong Kong and surrounding areas will benefit greatly from this high-level global IOT network.

Speaking about this investment, Sigfox Asia Pacific President Roswell Wolff said; their partners Thinxtra and the Hong Kong government are fully committed to strengthening the IOT network. Thinxtra is the only operator to expand Sigfox’s network to Asia Pacific; provided only 65% ​​of the network to Australia in 8 months and 80% of the network to New Zealand.
