ELIX Polymers continues its sustainable growth model

Following the sustainable growth model; ELIX Polymers, the manufacturer of ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) resin and derivatives used in 3D printing, has announced its fourth sustainability report this year. This report on fiscal year 2019 is based on the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Standards Guide. Integrating the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) in its business strategy, ELIX continues to publish this report regularly every year. The company reduces its ecological footprints by further strengthening its commitment to transparency and its sustainable and eco friendly growth model.

Releasing its first sustainability report in 2016, ELIX Polymers continues to advocate and implement an eco friendly growth model. Spain based, ABS manufacturer company has recently announced its 2019 sustainability report based on the GRI Standards Guide. ELIX has maintained to advance on reducing its environmental impact; by investing in projects that achieve a reduction of approximately 10% in greenhouse gas emissions. ELIX Polymers CEO, David Castañeda describes the fundamental lines and principles of the company’s sustainability strategy for 2030; He explained it as improving the transition towards the circular economy, reducing their ecological footprint, adopting ethical values and committing to the development of human capital.

For ELIX, adopting SDG; 2019 represented the beginning of a new stage of consolidation and growth as a member of the Sinochem Group. During this time, it increased its presence in the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and APAC (Asia Pacific) markets; as a benchmark provider of ABS solutions. Adopting sustainable growth, ELIX has been recognised with many awards; including the Best Polymer Producer Awards for European 2020, which distinguishes the best ABS manufacturer of the year, that it won for the third time in a row. The company also earned the renewal of the EcoVadis certificate at the GOLD level; placing ELIX among the top 2% slice among the evaluated companies.

A circular economy can be achieved only through cooperation

David Castañeda said; “Only through cooperation between the various players in the value chain can the transition to a circular economy model be accelerated; according to which waste is converted into raw materials and an urgent response is given to reducing the impact on the environment due to the use of plastics in our society”. Explaining that they would therefore include their stakeholders as participants in their goals; Castañeda stated that they would establish partnerships as a part of their sustainability programmes, focused on the following: developing a portfolio of more sustainable solutions; driving responsible innovation; and caring for the climate (reduction of GHGs), the supply chain, responsible operations, ethics and people development.

Head of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, Judith Banús noted that during 2019; they had worked based on the four cornerstones of the Corporate Social Responsibility policy defined in 2018. Banús relayed; “Thereby incorporating sustainability at the company and throughout the value chain, which allows us to improve the environment, our human team and our community; and consequently contribute to the commitments defined by ELIX in the Management by Missions project”.
